I think about Old St Marys Catholic Church often. My home church is Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Independence and we are in the midst of full renovation. I pray often to recieve the funds or blessings in some way to restore our beautiful churches and cathedrals that are so much in need of repairs. Years ago people held family celebrations in the church and made sure it was kept in the most beautiful condition but as of late it seems we need to renew this idea and pride in the houses that glorify jesus.

I used to come to St.Marys Church as a child, just to look around. Such beauty. Well 50 years later, Dec 3rd of 2011. Was my 59th birthday. I came into St.Marys and enjoyed the most wonderful day of my life. In such a beautiful atmosphere, church mass. Finally 50 yrs later, I sat in on a mass. Thank GOD for The builders , the Preists, and all that take wonderful care of this historic Church. God Bless All. Thank You.

It warms my heart to see the building is still standing strong -This was my childhood playground thanks to the Sisters of Notre Dame- I have so many memories-my 1st communion the candles, the windows,the church-my church home where i received so much love- Dang I miss Detroit, Greektown and my home church

My husband and I were married at Old St. Mary's this past August and it was the best day ever! Thank you Fr. Ed for preparing us for matrimony. If you are a Catholic and live in the Detroit area and have never been to Old St. Mary's-- you must attend a mass. It's a magical church.

I am trying to locate information about my great aunt.
A parishioner of St.Mary's, in 1949 (Mrs. Edwin A. Elliott, 1415 Parker Avenue, Detroit 14, Michigan) had a mass said for my aunt.Priest: Rev. Ernest Haas (sp?)October 1949 (She gave my great-aunt's name as Miss Frances Carey, but her correct name was Miss Florence Carey). It is my understanding Miss Carey died Sept. 25, 1949. I was hoping to find additional information about her. She had a Jewellery Shop, I think, as she was a silversmith by trade, in Detroit area.
Any information at all would be most appreciated.

I graduated from St. Mary's in 1958 (Juresich), my grandmother was buried from there in 1964 (Sophie Schweitzer) and I had a niece get married there in the 1980's. I last visited in 2007. I love St. Mary's and was sorry I couldn't attend the 175 years celebration.

 I am a descendent of the German people -- the Gies -- who came from Neustadt Hessen in 1830 and subsequently founded your church. I just found this out and was delighted to see a picture of the original church on your website.
