On Pentecost Sunday, May 23, 1703, Claude Poullart des Places founded the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (The Spiritans). This community was consecrated to the Holy Spirit under the invocation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Spiritan Fathers joyfully proclaim that their identity and rule of life is...
"To participate in the Church's mission by evangelizing the poor, going more especially to those who have not yet heard the gospel message, and to those whose needs are the greatest."
In the opening words of the Spiritan Rule of Life, we hear Jesus preaching the words of the Prophet Isiah:
The Spirit of the Lord is Upon me,
For he has anointed me,
To bring good news to the afflicted...
